New Girl...on the dock is a 1973 Catalina 27 tall rig. After searching all over and making trips to Seattle, we found her down at the South Flathead Yacht Club in Dayton, MT. It is now where we are members and dock her in the slip.
Measurements
Catalina 27s have an overall length of 26 feet 10 inches, a waterline length of 21 feet 10 inches and a length on deck of 26 feet 3 inches. The beam measures 8 feet 10 inches, the draft is 4.5 feet, and the minimum draft is 3 feet. Other measurements include a displacement of 7,300 pounds, a ballast weight of 3,150 pounds.
We have put a lot of sweat equity into her. Mark has done all of the rewiring, she has all new running rigging, I repainted all of the grippy deck surface from the dated baby blue to a light gray, I recovered all of the cushions, Mark made a new dining table with fiddles. We removed the old stove and put in an alcohol stove, I made thin cockpit cushions, fender bags, halyard bags, new mainsail cover, added rope clutches, LED masthead light, sanded and restored all of the teak inside and outWe replaced the hank on head sail with roller furling and added a brand new FX Sail with a Captain Navy Sunbrella edge. We renamecd her and added her new hailing port. (Yes there was a ceremony). There are so many more things that I haven't listed! All in all she is one great boat.
We trailered her to Florida and sailed her across the Gulf Stream to the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. She is a strong boat and did very well.
We raced her in the all islands race this past weekend and came in first place in the cruisers league and beat a couple of boats in the racing league.
She is a great boat and pretty much anything that needed to be done has been done for her. The only thing left would be bottom paint. It got sprayed off when we left Florida.
If you are interested, please drop us a line. We would love to take you out for a sail.
